We wish a happy new Year!

In March we will start again with a kindergarten project "From egg to chicken", which the kindergarten children are very happy about (and I am too).

By the way: January is animal number reporting time. So don't forget to register the number of chickens by 31.01. to be reported/updated at the competent animal disease fund.

Currently, the image of the flock of mother hens, which are allowed to raise their chicks in the group, is determined.

The next art breed is currently in the starting blocks.

With the project "From egg to chicken", the KiTa rascals from the municipality of Alfter and I won 1st place at the West Energy Climate Protection Prize 2021 in Alfter.

I'm still overwhelmed and didn't expect it. The project is about making it clear to children at an early age that excessive consumption of eggs and meat from factory farms and abroad is a major driver of man-made climate change and the associated animal suffering. The consumer determines the market with his behavior. The children learn in a playful way that questioning consumption and buying from the farmer next door is a sustainable gain for the climate and animal welfare. The following applies: short distances, conscious consumption and humility in front of the animal!

As part of the project, chicks will hatch in the day-care center in March. The children accompany the chicks from laying the eggs to hatching and the first days in the rearing area.

Bayerischer Rundfunk has  made a contribution to Swedish flower chickens. A couple of the hens and the rooster you can see in the post come from my breeding and have moved there.

You can find the article HERE.

The last natural brood chicks this year will now also fledge. You run with the mother hen to socialize with the rest of the group.

8 weeks old. Sleeping on the bar works, but they don't want to keep their distance, even though there are significantly more sleeping places.

There they are - 33 little Swedes from Sweden crawled out of their eggs. In 3 days you can play on sod and in wood shavings. It'll be out in 10 days. Always with a heat lamp and plate, of course.

At this point, once again a huge thank you to the Swedish genebank for their trust and support!

These guys have already covered almost 1000 km - and not by post! Directly from Sweden to the Eifel to enrich our breeding line with fresh blood. After intensive inspection and disinfection, as well as rest, they moved to the incubator today. The result will be there in 21 days.

Due to the corona pandemic, an earlier pickup was unfortunately not possible this year.

This gentleman and two ladies moved to the Jagdhaus Monschau in April. We regularly look forward to pictures and see how they grow and thrive.

Nice feedback from young animals that left us in April this year. Together with a young rooster they moved a little further into the Eifel and grew properly.
